A final year student of Mass Communication at the Lagos State University, Idebi David Ayowole, who is being managed as a case of Aplastic Anaemia complication by iron overload, will need as much as N60 million for bone marrow transplant.
David, a 25 years-old student was diagnosed about two years ago, and is currently on oral immuno-suppressant and iron chelation therapy. He goes through the therapy every month to survive since June 2023, plying Lagos and Ilorin in doing so.
He has been referred for a comprehensive treatment abroad by the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, for bone marrow transplant.
A medical report from the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH) dated January 8, 2025, and signed by the Chief Medical Director, Professor A. D. Yussuf, and the Consultant Haematologist, Dr. Omokanye K. O., said that the proposed treatment abroad will be definitive.
“The above named patient is being managed as a case of Aplastic Anaemia complicated by iron overload. He was diagnosed about two years ago, and is currently on oral immuno-suppressant and iron chelation therapy.
“He however, has not been regular on medications due to financial constraints.
“The definite treatment for his condition is to have a bone marrow transplant outside the country. All of these will cost about N60 million”, the medical report read in part.
The father, Idebi Oyewolw Daniel, a retiree, and his mother, Idebi Deborah Oyewoleola, have spent, and have continued to spend fortunes on his treatment, and are calling on well meaning Nigerians, NGOs and government at all levels, for assistance and support.

David was born in Ilorin on 29th of September, 2002. He attended His Grace Nursery/Primary School, Ilorin, and Federal Government College, Ogbomoso, for his primary and secondary education, before proceeding to Lagos State University (LASU), to study Mass Communication, and is now in the final year.
