The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has honoured a motorist, Mr Ade Omolewa, for his strict compliance to road traffic rules and regulations.

The award was presented to Omolewa by the FRSC Zonal Commanding Officer, Assistant Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed in Abuja.

Mohammed said that the good character of a motorist was paramount to prevention of accidents.

“We are here to identify the exemplary character and conduct of a motorist that has been obeying traffic rules and regulations.

“This is to show that we are not always about enforcement, arrests and prosecutions.

“Our job is to meet citizens, it is about citizens engagement, trying to educate them on good road safety culture and ensuring safe motoring environment for all.

“So, today is a reflection of our mandate that we are not only prosecuting and arresting, but also engaging stakeholders and when they exhibit exemplary conduct, we appreciate them,” he said.

The Sector Commander, FCT Command, Mr Oga Ochi, said that the corps would continue to monitor and recognise motorists who exhibited excellent road traffic culture.

“This is one of them. We have monitored him for over three months. We are doing this because we know that this will also spur other road users to obey traffic regulations.

“One of the cardinal problems we have in the FCT is disobedience to traffic light and we have identified him as one person that have singled himself out to obey traffic lights in the FCT.

“We are extending this to the military, paramilitary organisations and other agencies of government in the next quarter and they will be recognised as well,” Ochi said.
