Golden Jubilee: Ex-Students launch multi-million Naira Project in Kwara Polytechnic

The Alumni Association of the Kwara State Polytechnic has launched a multi-million naira project known as ‘Alumni Village’ in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the institution.

This was disclosed by the Chairman of the association, Engineer Abu Salami, during a lecture organised as part of the activities to celebrate the golden jubilee, held at the premises of the institution in Ilorin, Kwara State.

Salami said that the proposed village would comprise a guest house and other facilities, which would make it a one-stop shop.

“If you go to any standard higher institution in Nigeria and abroad, anytime they have an event or meeting that people would be coming from far places, they don’t put guests at where can not be sure of their security and timely arrival to the event.

“It is also a way of generating funds for the association and bring members together,” he said.

The chairman asserted that the first phase of the project would cost N29 million with a room for expansion in the future.

“In terms of cost implication, the first phase of Alumni Village will be gulping twenty-nine million nairas because it’s going to have nothing less than 30 rooms, a conference hall with a capacity of more than 100 people, offices and recreational areas. It will be a standard that everyone will be proud of,” hr explained.

The chairman of the old students union lauded the management of the school for providing a befiting land space that would accommodate sufficient expansion for future plans for the project.

In his speech the Rector of the institution, Engineer (Dr.) Abdul Jimoh Muhammed lauded the executive of the Alumni worldwide for deeming it fit to celebrate their Alma mata with a befitting ceremony.

The Rector also listed something e f the achievement of his administration and tasked the member of Alumni to assist in getting license for the Microfinance Bank of the institution from Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

“In realization of its enormous benefits to staff and the polytechnic community, the management established the Kwarapoly Microfinance Bank. We have opened an account at Keystone (the parent bank for the MFB) and at present, our application for operating license awaits Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) approval.

“So, we call on our alumni to help use their influence, contacts, and internal connection to get the approved license for the microfinance bank for further development of our institution”, he said.
