Iyiola Omisore, former Deputy Governor of Osun State, has said that the current governor, Ademola Adeleke, is politically stranded.
Omisore disclosed this on Wednesday during an interview on Channels Television while reacting to speculation that Adeleke is planning to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to Omisore, Governor Adeleke, who was elected on the PDP platform, is now considering joining the APC.
He accused Adeleke of appealing to APC stalwarts, including a southern governor, to allow him into the party.
“For the past three years, he has been governing that state with no single person decamping from APC to PDP.
“Meanwhile, over one-seventh of PDP members have moved to APC. You know, of course, that Alhaji Isa Oyedokun, Dayo Babayemi, Hon. Wole Oke and others are still coming,” Omisore said.
He added: “Why do you want to force yourself on the party? Why is the governor begging to enter the party? He is struggling, begging, and fighting to join APC.”
Governor Adeleke is currently serving his first term and is seeking re-election. However, internal crises within the PDP, which have polarised the party nationally and triggered defections to the APC, have heightened concerns about his chances.
In recent weeks, reports have emerged that Adeleke has finalised plans to defect to the APC to boost his re-election prospects. Some sources even claimed that President Bola Tinubu has endorsed him for the APC ticket and would instruct the Osun chapter and party leaders to support him.
Adeleke’s recent meeting with President Tinubu in Lagos has further fuelled speculation that he intends to dump the PDP for the APC.
