The leadership of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo state has described as shameful, Governor Godwin Obaseki’s call on Nigerian workers to reject the federal government’s proposed palliatives aimed at cushioning the effects of fuel subsidy removal.

The party said the governor was particularly contradictory “considering that he is actively involved as a member of the National Economic team that proposed the idea”.

It described the governor’s shift in position as childish and cowardice who could not open up at such high level forum “because he knows that superior arguments would have pooh-poohed his stance”.

In a statement issued by the State APC chairman, Col. David Imuse (rtd), the party stated that the Obaseki’s comment to workers in Edo was “inciting the people against the Federal government and even treasonable”.

Obaseki had while addressing protesting organized labour in Benin City, also described the Federal government palliatives as fraudulent and advocated that the palliatives should be channeled through local government councils.

Continuing, Imuse said the governor’s “current opposing stance therefore raises questions about his motives and commitment to the welfare of the Nigerian people.

“And such contradictions undermine any modicum of credibility and cast doubt on his ability to make informed and consistent decisions: a plague which has since ravaged and pauperized Edo state under his leadership.

“On his call that palliatives should go as Local Government Allocations, Edo people  know that it is his idea   sustaining his looting of local government councils across the State. State”, he stated.
