A group, the Kwara Awareness Movement, KAM, has urged Senator Yahaya Ibrahim Oloriegbe to shun political discord and rather join other party leaders to promote peace and unity in the Kwara state APC in order not to jeopardize the gains made in the state on Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq’s watch.
KAM noted that what should be considered a priority is ensuring that an opportunity to build on the progress made by the APC-led administration which will come in the way of elections next year is properly utilized by making Kwara to remain an APC-controlled state.
The group in a joint statement issued in Ilorin by its Chairman, Comrade Kamal Adigun and Secretary, Mr Joseph Afolayan noted that this had become necessary following Oloriegbe’s Kwara Central APC 2022 primary election comments while appearing as a guest on Channel Television’s Sunrise Daily programme on Wednesday.
While urging Kwara state APC members not to inflame the situation , avoid offensive comments and allow the party leaders to intervene and ensure that no one rocks the boat , the group however said the senator would be doing a great disservice to himself and posterity if he allows the situation to escalate.
‘We know that Senator Yahaya Oloriegbe is committed to making Kwara state great and he will stay on course. Only God Almighty gives power to whom He wishes , losing the senate primary to Mallam Salihu Mustapha should not be a reason to hit the roof. If God had destined that he will be re-elected he would have won the senate primary election.
We have people who have shown that they are true party men and they have demonstrated spirit of sportsmanship.
Alhaji Yahaya Seriki was a governorship aspirant, who withdrew from the governorship race to endorse Governor Abdulrahman four years ago, he also wanted the senate nomination this year but he could not get it and he has easily accepted this as will of God.
Mr Nurudeen Adeyemi came all the way from the United States and he wanted the party to make him the candidate for the Kwara South senate election, the campaign took a lot ; money , time and energy.
Many of our young people, who competed for APC House of Representatives/House of Assembly nominations, also spent time and resources to prosecute such but later accepted the primary election outcomes. There are numerous examples to cite in this regard.
But after losing the primaries, they did not complain and they accepted the primary election outcomes as the will of God.
What will the senator tell Kwarans and what excuse will he give for fighting the governor? Will he say the governor has failed to deliver dividends of democracy or simply say he is fighting him because he could not get nominated by the party?
We urge our distinguished senator to show commitment to placing public needs and the concerns of the masses above narrow self-interest or the demands of the privileged’ the group submitted.
KAM also emphasized the need for the senator to put issues that have to do with the Kwara Central 2022 APC senate primary election to rest and join the governor to sustain efforts to take Kwara state to greater heights.
