In a move to strengthen the branch of investigative journalism in the country, Nigerian Guild of Investigative Journalists (NGIJ) has dissolved its Executive Committee led by Wale Abideen and inaugurated Electoral Committee as part of the process to bring in new National Executive Members for the Association.
This is coming as part of the strategic bid to reposition the association for improved effectiveness. The Guild dissolved the Abideen Executive Committee that was serving at Acting capacity then via Virtual Congress attended by over 40 members Nationwide on Sunday, June 21, 2020.
The Guild organized virtual meeting in compliance with the Nigeria Centre for Diseases Control (NCDC) and Presidential Task force on COVID-19 guidelines which restricted physical meeting of above 20 persons.
The Special Congress chaired by Mr Israel Bolaji also nominated a 5-member Electoral Committee to conduct the Guild’s fresh elections to fill positions as provided for in its newly Amended Constitution.
The Electoral Committee consists of Abiodun Abdulkareem of Focus TV and Rowland Shuwa of Herald Newspaper. Other members are Ikem Ifeoma, Tope Sunday and Solanke Taiwo.
The Congress mandated the committee to work out modalities to ensure smooth conduct of the Guild ‘s election within one month.

One of its flagship projects is the State Governance Assessment Report (GAR) which it conducted in Kogi and Bayelsa states respectively and unveiled the reports to the general public.
