The Good Governance Initiative, a non-governmental organisation, has called on the Kano state government to put a stop to the demolition spree it had embarked upon since the inception of the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf (aka Abba Gida Gida).

In a communiqué made available to newsmen at the end of a one day good governance appraisal summit held in Kano, Tuesday, the group counseled the state government to effect a speedy compensation of the victims directly affected by the demolition exercise, for equity and justice.

The communiqué said there was the compelling need for effecting a thorough review of how the land was allocated to the victims with a view to discerning whether due process was followed by the immediate past administration, having been at the centre of the grouse.

To this end the group urged the state government to establish a high powered committee to handle the task with clear terms of reference and proffer acceptable recommendations on the way out of the log jam.

On the issue of good governance, the group stressed the need for government at all levels to focus attention on the promotion of national interest at the time the country is desperately looking for ways to surmount the obstacles militating against it.
