A lecturer at Akawe Torkula Polytechnic, Makurdi, Dr Emmanuel Aime, was accused of organ theft just as he was beaten up by some hoodlums.
The incident happened on Wednesday in Makurdi, Benue State capital, at about 10 am.
An eyewitness told our correspondent that the lecturer, who is also a pastor at Living Faith Church in the capital city, said that a young man suddenly raised the alarm about his organ’s disappearance.
He said that immediately someone raised the alarm that his organ had disappeared and pointed at the middle-aged man who was just passing by. In a jiffy, some young people stormed the scene and started beating him.
When contacted, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Catherine Anene, condemned the action and said that two people had been arrested.
She lamented, “What a shame for some people. They don’t have respect for the law, not for elders or anyone else. How can this happen in this generation?
Traditional rulers, religious leaders, community leaders, and every other stakeholder should please rise to fight against this barbaric act. Let’s educate people, please. This is too bad.
“Two suspects have been arrested and they will be dealt with accordingly.”
