The Ibagun community in Ilorin East local government area of Kwara State on Saturday presented a vehicle to the ward’s community policing for effective patrol of the area.
The vehicle, a golf 3 saloon car was presented to officials of the community policing by the head of Ibagun ward, Alangua Zakariyau Ilufemiloye at a ceremony well attended by stakeholders in the community and held within the premises of Government Day Secondary School, Amule, Okelele, Ilorin.
The president of Ibagun Progressive Union (IPU) , Alh Kuranga Omomeji Morogun, said the union engaged in fund raising for the purchase of the vehicle to compliment the efforts of members and officials of community policing in the ward.
He praised the operatives of the community policing for ensuring peace and security in Ibagun ward.
In his remarks, the special adviser on Strategy to Kwara State governor, Alh Saadu Salahu hailed the efforts of Ibagun community policing in ensuring security of lives and property in the area.
He charged them to intensify efforts in ensuring security in the area and commended the state government for being supportive of the community policing initiative as well as the conventional security agencies in the state, which he noted has made the state one of safest states in the country.
The chairman of Kwara State Community Policing, Alh Abdullahi Yusuf, praised the people of Ibagun ward for their kind gesture, describing the donation of a vehicle to the committee as the first of its kind in Ilorin Emirate.
Yusuf enjoined the people of the community to always give useful information to the police and officials of community policing on issues that can cause security breaches in the area.
The senior special assistant to the state governor, Alh Muyideen Aliyu, the divisional police officer of the newly established Okelele Divisional Police Headquarters, Alhaja Bilikis Adu and the coordinator of IPU, Barr. AbdulRauf Ajao were part of the dignitaries that graced the event.
