The Igbinedion University, Okada in Edo says it has begun the production of paint for revenue generation.
Prof. Lawrence Ezemonye, Vice Chancellor of the university disclosed this on Saturday in his address at the 26th matriculation ceremony of no fewer than 1500 new students.
According to him, the paint production unit was, in addition to the existing water factory, bakery, palm oil mill and fishery enterprises embarked by the university.
Ezemonye also announced new postgraduate programmes in Medical Laboratory Science, Nursing Science and Mass Communication.
“Following a successful verification exercise conducted by the National Universities Commission (NUC), the university has been granted approval to run new postgraduate programmes.
“These include M.Sc. and Ph.D in Medical Laboratory Science, Ph.D Nursing Science and Ph.D Mass Communication,” he said.
He said the approval was a testament to the university’s commitment to academic excellence and a boost to its growth trajectory.
Ezemonye, who highlighted the achievements of the institution in recent time, said it secured a partnership with the Chinese Government in promoting entrepreneurship and educational technology.
He said two staff and 18 students had been invited to Jiangxi Collège of Foreign Studies for course on innovation, entrepreneurship and cultural hybridisation.
Ezemonye charged the new students to approach their studies with diligence and with all sense of seriousness.
“Engage actively with your lecturers and peers, and take full advantage of the resources available to you,” he said.
In his goodwill remark, Chief Gabriel Igbinedion, Chancellor of the university congratulated the students on their admission, and charged them to use the opportunity to unlock the best version.
Igbinedion, who was represented by his son, Lucky, assured the parents that the university would impart positively on their wards.
The Guest Speaker, Samson Ogbole, an alumnus of the university, advised the students never to entertain fear in their attitude to challenges that would come their way. (NAN)
