The launch of Curious Television on Sunday has added new momentum to Ilorin’s rise as one of Nigeria’s fastest-growing digital broadcast hubs.
The Kwara State capital, already benefiting from reliable fiber optic coverage, is increasingly attracting media innovators who see the city as an ideal base for high-quality online content production and distribution.
The latest entrant, Curious Television, is led by Olufemi Akobi, a multiple award-winning journalist with a track record of grassroots-focused reporting. The platform, Akobi says, is designed to bring community issues into sharper public focus.
“Digital media gives us the power to connect people directly to conversations that shape their lives,” Akobi told guests at the launch, which was attended by senior journalists, politicians, and government representatives.
By prioritising voices from rural and semi-urban areas, Curious Television aims to plug what Akobi describes as a “representation gap” in Nigeria’s news and public discourse.
Media analysts point out that with Ilorin’s existing internet infrastructure, online broadcasters have a cost-effective base to reach national and global audiences. The trend is also boosting ancillary services in content creation, advertising, and media training within the city.
For many observers, the success of Curious Television could further cement Ilorin’s status as a magnet for digital entrepreneurs seeking an alternative to Nigeria’s traditional media capitals.
