INEC declares 26 year old female Journalist winner of House of Assembly seat

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared 26-year-old female Journalist, Rukayat Motunrayo Shittu, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress for Owode/Onire State Constituency in Asa local government area of Kwara State, as the winner of Saturday, March 18 election.

Rukayat scored 7,521 to defeat the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, (PDP), Abdullah Magaji, who scored 6,957.

 

Speaking with Journalists after being declared the winner, Rukayat said she felt privileged to be pronounced winner of the election in Owode Onire constituency and appreciated her party, leaders of the party and voters for giving her what she described as a rear opportunity.

“Youth and women are being sidelined in Nigerian politics but Governor Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq has shaped the face in Kwara. I will make sure I improve and encourage youth and women participation in the polity”, she declared.

 

The newly elected lawmaker was a Journalist with Kwara-based online media, ‘Just Event Online publication’, before now.
