Dr Khadijat Musah, the Chairman, West African Postgraduate College of Nurses and Midwives, (WAPCNM) Oyo- Osun Branch has observed the contribution of older persons in Nigeria.
In a press statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ilorin on Thursday, Musah emphasised that the nation’s Seniour citizens are an integral part of the nation, who at one point or another contributed to the development of the country.
She explained that the United Nations General Assembly designated Oct. 1st as the International Day of Older Persons.
According to her, in 2002, the Second World Assembly on Ageing adopted the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing, to respond to the opportunities and challenges of population ageing in the 21st century and to promote the development of a society for all ages.
Musah disclosed that the members of the Postgraduate College will celebrate the nation’s aged citizens by giving back and ensuring thier comforts.
She explained further the College will mark the day with the theme: “The Resilience and Contribution of Older Women“.
She stated that experts from the Post Graduate College will embark on excursion to Ilaji Resort, Ibadan and also visitation and presentation of food items to Seniour Citizens Palace, Akobo in Ibadan.
Other activities, she said includes presentation of medical consumables at the Chief Anenih Geriatric Centre in University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan among others.
Musah added that Mr Francis Popoola Secretary of the WAPCNM, South West Zone will deliver will be the speaker.
