The Irepodun Unity Caucus (IUC) has commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his proactive steps in addressing insecurity in Kwara South Senatorial District, describing his interventions as timely and effective.
In a communiqué issued at the end of its strategic meeting held in Esie, the group applauded the governor for his swift and coordinated response to the recent bandit attacks in Oke Ode and other communities in Ifelodun Local Government Area.
The Leader of the Caucus, Major General Lasisi Olayemi Abidoye (Rtd), said the governor’s actions had produced visible results, including the neutralization of several bandits and kidnappers as well as the prevention of criminals from establishing any foothold in the state.
“It is heartwarming that following the bandits’ attack in Oke Ode and nearby communities, the Governor acted swiftly and courageously by visiting the affected areas with military commanders, deploying additional troops, recruiting 2,600 forest guards — bringing the total to 3,300 — and compensating families of fallen forest guards with ₦80 million,” Abidoye said.
He added that the gesture was a clear demonstration of the government’s support for local security personnel who continue to risk their lives to protect the state. Abidoye, who also serves on the Kwara South Security Committee chaired by the Olupo of Ajasse-Ipo, commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the deployment of military forces to the region at the governor’s request.
The Caucus also hailed the Kwara South Development Initiatives (KSDI) for organizing the recent strategic engagement meeting that brought together stakeholders across government, politics, and community development. The group praised the KSDI Convener, Engr. Dr. Johnson Adewumi, for his leadership role in promoting security and development in Kwara South.
While acknowledging the creation of a regional security fund by the Kwara South Security Committee, the group urged residents, leaders, and stakeholders to support the initiative through active contributions.
Meanwhile, the IUC expressed displeasure over what it described as “inflammatory remarks” made by Reverend Israel Amoo during the funeral of former Governor Chief Cornelius Adebayo at Oke Onigbin, Isin Local Government Area.
“It is unbecoming to use the pulpit for political posturing,” the communiqué noted, insisting that the governor’s administration had recorded significant infrastructural achievements in Kwara South. “In Irepodun alone, the government has executed multiple road projects such as the Omu-Aran-Oko Road, Esie Museum Road, Okerimi Oro Junction–NITEL Oro Road, Okeya–Ajase-Ipo Road, Oro–Esie–Agbonda–Arandun Road, and the ongoing Agbamu–Ila-Orangun Border Road.”
The Caucus further encouraged residents of Irepodun Local Government to sustain their active participation in the ongoing voter registration exercise, describing it as a civic duty crucial to strengthening democracy at the grassroots level.
The meeting, hosted by the Deputy Chief of Staff to the Governor, Princess Bukola Babalola, was presided over by Major General Lasisi Olayemi Abidoye (Rtd), the Esikin of Omu-Aran.
Prominent attendees included Alhaji Raheem Adedoyin, Hon. Azeez Yakubu, Hajia Rasheedat Kazeem, Hon.
