Former president of the Court of Appeal, Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa, has dissociated herself from controversial comments allegedly made by her husband, Senator Adamu Bulkachuwa, on the floor of the National Assembly.
Senator Adamu was quoted to have said on the floor of the house that he had before now influenced his wife’s decision to assist his colleagues.
But faulting the claims, the retired justice stated that as president of the court, her fellow colleagues could attest to the fact that she never interfered with the independence of any of the justices of the court in the discharge of their judicial functions.
She said she never throughout her 40 years in the bench influenced any decision, stating further that her decisions were always based on facts, laws, conscience and the oath of office she took.
In the rebuttal made in Abuja via a press release dated 17th June, 2023, Bulkachuwa stated: “My attention has been drawn to the trending video of what was said by my husband, Senator Adamu M Bulkachuwa.
“I want to state categorically that I never at any time compromised my oath of office to favour any party who appeared before me throughout my judicial career spanning 40 years of service to my country.
“My decisions were always based on the facts, the law and in accordance with my conscience and oath of office.” (Blueprint)
