KCCL Inaugurates Solar-Powered Cold Room In Kwara, Pledges Affordable Prices

An Agricultural Value Chain Company, KCCL on Thursday inaugurated a fully solar-powered cold room in Ilorin, Kwara State.

A technology-innovative cold room which is the first of its kind in Nigeria was built by a team of experts from the Republic of Netherlands.

Speaking on the motivation behind the initiative, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of KCCL, Mr Ope Olanrewaju said “the idea saw the light of the day after several attempts to provide solution to wastage of foods that is common, as a result of unstable power supply by the electricity companies in our country and the high cost of fuel to run generator.

“We started the business of frozen foods in Lagos and I don’t always want to remember how much loss we incurred as a result of how much it cost to power a cold room with a generator amidst the epileptic power supply. The determination to find a lasting solution and further add value to the Agricultural chain birthed this initiative.

“The team of experts that built it came from abroad and the solar have the capacity to work for 72 hours at a high level.”

The outlet is located along Egbejila Road, Asa-Dam area of Ilorin West local government.

He stated some of the opportunities that came with such solar-powered cold rooms to the residents of the area, Ilorin and Kwara at large to includes freshness, affordability, safety and the capacity to supply high quantities at any time the need arises.

Also speaking at the event, the Vice Chairman of KWACCIMA, Dr Sambo Heylni, lauded the initiative and determination of the Chief Executive Officer and urged him to consider opening more outlets in another part of the state and not to relent in his determination to adding value to the Agric chain.

The event was witnessed by the representative of the Boilers Association, cold-rooms Association and many dignitaries.
