Academic Board of Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja has approved the withdrawal of 196 students of the polytechnic over poor performance in the last academic session.
Dr Salisu Ogbo Usman, Rector of the Polytechnic who disclosed this in a statement signed by Mrs Uredo Omale, Head, Public Relations and Protocol Unit on Monday in Lokoja.
Ogbo decried the high turnover of students’ withdrawal from various departments of the institution due mainly to poor academic performance.
He said that the decision and approval for the current withdrawal of 196 students by the Academic Board was taken at a regular meeting held in March.
It would be recalled that the Polytechnic withdrew 410 students in the 2019/2020 Academic Session.
Disturbed by the high rate of withdrawal mostly on account of poor performance, the Rector has advised students of the institution to avoid distractions, remain focused and committed to their academic pursuits.
He said that the advice had become imperative as the students prepare for the 2021/2022 First Semester Examinations commenced on Monday.
Ogbo said the Polytechnic management was committed to making the teaching and learning environment conducive for both staff and students and urged them to take maximum advantage of it.
He added that the students’ good academic performance so far, was a direct result of dedication and hardwork achieved under the conducive learning atmosphere which the Institution has put in place
He therefore urged students to be diligent in their studies and graduate as planned.
