The 2023 Young Progressives Party (YPP) Governorship candidate in Kwara State, Waziri Yakubu Gobir has promised to run an inclusive government where no religion or tribe is marginalised if elected as Governor come March 2023.

Gobir disclosed this on Friday at the interactive session organised by the Kwara State Chapter of the Christians Association of Nigeria, (CAN) in Ilorin — the state’s capital.

The session under the steered by Pastor Abel Aiyedogbon, Chairman, Political Sensitisation Committee of Kwara CAN was set up to know the agenda of political parties and their candidates ahead of the general elections.

Gobir, while reeling off his agenda for Kwarans appreciated CAN for the privilege to present his manifesto and agenda for the state.

“I have good intentions and I always pray to God to give Kwara the best because our people desire the best. Our ineptitude as a nation begins when we pursue material things, pointedly money; at the detriment of human capital development. We hold public office in the trust of the people and it should be the power of the people because power belongs to the people.” He summarised, “my priority is to bring back good governance to the state.”

Aláànú Mẹ̀kúnnù promised to ensure the domestication of the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act in the state. He added that every Kwaran should have the right to public records and know how the state’s commonwealth is spent, which is enshrined in the act. According to him, “the FOI act was passed by the state’s 8th Assembly and waiting for the Executive’s assent. However, with the hesitation of the current administration, the bill won’t be passed into law anytime soon. Once I am elected into office, I will ensure the domestication of the FOI bill.”

Gobir hinted to the committee about his plan to create the Kwara Anti-corruption Bureau to checkmate corruption in the state. “It is important to fight corruption and mitigate waste of state resources. EFCC is in the state today because of the failure of the state to fight corruption and if I am elected as the Governor of Kwara State, I will create a State-based Anti-corruption Bureau. And if as the state Governor, I am found wanting of any corrupt practice, I am ready to wave the immunity clause of my office to clear my name.” He said.

“Our youths are frustrated and angry at the situation of this Country. They have lost hope in the country and that is why many of them are indulging themselves in social vices like cultism, drug abuse, and others. In my capacity as an individual, I have been supporting the youths in the State but if I am allowed to lead, my administration will place priority on youth development.”

The Wazirin Hausa also promised to conduct Local Government elections within six months of his government and create LCDA to bring the Government closer to the people.

On revenue generation, Gobir said the debt rate of Kwara State is currently high and the monthly allocation has allegedly been mismanaged which has plunged the state into total debt.

“We will run a data-driven government. I partnered with the Civil Society Organization (CSO), Enetsud, in the state to do a need assessment of what the over 3000 communities in the state need and what can be done to allow them to feel the impact of the government.

The CAN Leadership, Pastor Abel Oke Aiyedogbon in response eulogized the YPP candidate’s agenda for the state. He attested to Gobir’s Public-Private partnership agenda by saying “truly if we want our country to grow it must be a Public-Private partnership”

Waziri’s entourage includes; Chief Dele Ogunbayo (YPP Chairman), The Deputy Governorship Candidate, Hon. Bolujoko George, Amb Olanrewaju Abraham Kwara South Senatorial Candidate, Hon. Seun Ajibola (KWHA Candidate Ifelodun Constituency), Deacon James Dada (KWHA Candidate Isin Constituency), Hon. Olugbenga Popoola (KWHA Candidate Oyun Constituency) and executive members of YPP.
