Meeting called by the national secretariat of All Progressive Congress, APC, to reconcile the two warring factions in the unfolding crisis in Kwara State chapter of the party might have ended in a deadlock.
At the end of the meeting that lasted over an hour, leaders of the two warring factions, Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed and Kwara State governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq, walked out of the party secretariat with frowned faces as both declined to speak to press men who were eagerly awaiting the outcome of the meeting.
The meeting, which was presided over by the chairman caretaker committee, Mai Mala Buni, represented by the secretary of the committee, Sen John Akpanudoedehe, was called following the crisis that broke out in Kwara APC last week over alleged removal of the state chairman of the party, Hon Bashir Omolaja Bolarinwa by the Buni-led committee on the instruction of governor Abdulrasaq.
The meeting also had in attendance Niger State governor, Abubakar Sanni Bello, who is the North-Central representative in the national caretaker committee of APC.
Addressing journalists at the end of the meeting, Niger State governor, Sanni Bello, attributed the cause of the empasse to lack of communication which he said will be looked into and “whatever decision we will take we will make sure that there is no bias and whatever decision we will take we will make sure that it is in the interest of our great party the APC.”
Bello said the meeting looked at the issues surrounding the crisis in Kwara APC and had brief submission from some of the stakeholders, and it was resolved that the matter be taken back to the zone to look into the causes of the empasse and report back to the National caretaker committee.
He said, “I hope that by next week we should be able to resolve the matter at the zonal level and once that is done we can put our recommendation to the National caretaker committee for further action.”
“We have no intention to favour any person but to look critically at the situation and to advise the National caretaker committee on the necessary steps to take I think that is our mandate.”
