The women’s group under the banner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Kwara State chapter on Wednesday formally launched a platform to promote female aspirants for the 2027 general election.

Speaking at the launching of the platform held at the state party secretariat, G.R.A, Ilorin, the convener/coordinator of the group, Hon. Ambassador Zainab Damilola Abbas, said the platform is formed to sustain the inclusive leadership legacy of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.

“This is a defining moment in the female political journey in Kwara because we have to build on the legacy of His Excellency, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq whose administration has been maintaining 35% women representation in governance, an achievement that is now recognised as a benchmark.

“This platform is aimed at sustaining the inclusive leadership legacy of our working governor.

She added that “this platform would mentor and mobilize women across the 16 local government areas in the state, strengthen solidarity among female aspirants, and complement government efforts in implementing the Renewed Hope Vision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“We are not here to compete but to complement; not to divide but to develop; not to be seen but to serve. We are committed to building a future where women are not only part of the story but actively shaping the story of Kwara and Nigeria,” she said

She however commended the national grand matron of the group, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, and the national matron, Hajia Fatimoh Tajudeen Abbas, and State matron Ambassador Olufolake AbdulRazaq for their consistent advocacy for women’s advancement nationwide.

In her speech, the guest speaker, Mrs Hawa Bashir, commended the initiative and urged women to take their rightful place in the political space saying, “from our homes to the workshop women have been leading, organizing, and building. Politics is simply an extension of what we are already doing, only at a larger scale and with a louder voice this time in political space.

“The time has come for women to move from the background to the decision table not as a token, but as trailblazers and contributors.

“We only have to show courage, competence, character, commitment, and collaboration to achieve that. We have to show and deploy the power of collective voice, in which the purpose of which this platform was established. We should not forget that this platform represents; unity, mentorship, and visibility.

“Politics is not a man’s world, it’s a world that belongs to all and as women we are not asking for special treatment all we need is fair representation, to be heard, respected, and trusted as leaders.”

In her remarks, the State Commissioner for Social Development, Hajia Mariam Nnafatima Imam, PhD, hailed the inclusive leadership of the Governor AbdulRahman-led administration saying, “The future of women in politics is bright in Kwara with the launching of this platform.”
