The Kwara State Commissioner for Communications, Honourable Bolanle Olukoju on Tuesday sought the support of journalists in projecting the activities of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq-led administration in the state.
Olukoju sought support during a familiarization visit to the secretariat of the Correspondent’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, located at Muritala Mohammed Way, Ilorin.
Responding to observations by journalists, she said, “There can always be negative reports and the urge or need to write it, but we just want to ensure that the government is not misrepresented.
“We are quite aware of the nature of your profession and the lofty position you occupied as representatives of national media houses.
“We urged you and every journalist to always cross-check from my office before going to the press.
“We don’t take your relationship for granted. You people made Kwara to be very peaceful, it could have been the otherwise if you had chosen to look the other way.
“I won’t deceive myself, I know the state is fortunate to have you as partners,” she said.
She further disclosed that the state government had moved to streamline the source of information to the public to media experts in the cabinet as well as to train other professionals but with little or no media experience.
She however pleaded with journalists in the State not to relent in adequately reporting the programmes and activities of Governor AbdulRazaq’s administration.
