The Kwara state, deputy governor Mr Kayode Alabi was on Monday 25th January, advised the people of the state to cultivate the habit of tree planting around their houses and always engage the service of professional builders to guide against rainstorm and other natural disasters.
The deputy governor offered this advise while presenting the preloaded Automated Teller Machine (ATM) card to the victims of the recent Ilorin rainstorm which began last week at the premises of the kwara state civil service commission in Ilorin.
The total numbers of beneficiaries were 2,300 with almost N92.5 million disbursed in category of N25,000, N50,000 and N100,000 depends on the degree of damage suffered.
Presenting the Preloaded ATM of N100,000 each to the last batches of the beneficiaries, Alabi, said “our administration assurance to the people of the state is that we will never abandon them, we will always come through for them with available resources and in the most transparent and dignified manner possible”
“This is what you have seen on display on how the committee have handled our various relief supports for the victims of Ilorin rainstorm and flooding in parts of Moro, Patigi, and Edu local government areas as well as victims of the recent looting that followed the #EndSARS protests in Ilorin”

The deputy governor, also advised the people of the state to cultivate the habit of planting tree and engage the service of professional builders anytime they are building.
Speaking earlier, the Chairperson of the committee, Hajia Habibat Yusuf explained that the exercise was the final phase of the government’s financial assistance to victims of the rainstorm in Ilorin West, Ilorin East, Ilorin South and some parts in Asa Local Government areas of the state.
Hajia Yusuf recalled that the government had earlier distributed relief materials such as roofing sheets and nails to cushion the disaster’s effect, which was followed by financial support. She said Three Hundred victims would receive One Hundred Thousand Naira each, Five Hundred victims would receive Fifty Thousand Naira each while One Thousand Five Hundred victims would receive Twenty Five Thousand Naira each.
She thanked the government for its confidence in the committee and counselled the beneficiaries to cultivate the habit of tree planting, desist from indiscriminate tree felling and use of quality building materials to prevent damage from rainstorm.
