Kwara Governor Has Changed Narratives On Thuggery, Drug Abuse, Says Aide

Senior adviser and counsellor to Kwara State governor, Alh Saadu Salahu has said that Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has changed the narratives of 2018 which portrayed the state as one with high prevalence of drug abuse cases.

Salahu said the governor’s zero tolerance for thuggery has forced down drug abuse amongst youths most of who he said are now engaged in productive ventures.

“Crimes and criminality has reduced by 70 % because the govenor does not encourage thuggery”. The governor has changed the narratives of 2018 that put Kwara on the top of state in north central with drugs abuse “, he said.

Salahu spoke at a one day lecture on drug abuse organised by the Government Day Junior Secondary School, Ojagboro, Ilorin.

He appealed to the authorities of 16 local government areas in the state, traditional institutions and community development associations to support the Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency ( NDLEA) in its campaign against drugs abuse, rehabilitation and management of victims for the agenda of Governor AbdulRazaq in making Kwara a drug free state to be achieved.

Salahu also urged radio and television stations in state to dedicate at least a weekly programme to highlighting the harmful effects of drug abuse on the youths.

Principal of the Government Day Junior Secondary School, Ojagboro, Alh Abdullahi Yusuf Jibril said the school organised the lecture to sensitise the students because ” most adolescents were unaware of the implication and dangers of drug abuse.”

In his lecture, the commander of the NDLEA, Kwara command, Mohamed Ibrahim ,represented by Assistant comander of Narcotics, Ajanaku Toyin, decried the effects of drug abuse on the youths, recalling that the state toped others in the north central with 13.4 % in drug abuse prevalance in 2018.
