Kwara Lawmakers Visit Collapsed Nigeria/Benin Republic Bridge, Make Case For Timely Repair

Kwara State House of Assembly members led by the Rt. Hon. Speaker, Engr. Yakubu Danladi Salihu on Wednesday paid a spot assessment visit to the collapsed bridge in Chikanda where Nigeria shares a border with Benin Republic.

The visit followed the resolution of the Assembly at the plenary on Tuesday urging His Excellency Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to
direct the State Ministry of Works and Transport to provide palliative measures to ease the movement of people and goods between Nigeria and Benin.

On getting to the site of the collapsed bridge, the Government of Benin mobilized their engineers to the site to solve the conundrum.

On the entourage of the Rt. Hon. Speaker were the Deputy Chairman, House Committee on Works and Transport, and member representing Patigi state constituency Hon. Adam Rufai, member representing Okuta/Yashikira Hon. Muhammad Baba Salihu, member representing Bani/ Adena/Gweri I&II Hon Saidu Baba, member representing Kaiama/Kemaji/Wojibe Hon Abdullah Halidu Danbaba, Commissioner for Works Transport, Hon Rotimi Illiasu, his counterpart in the Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon Aliyu Kora Sabi Dudu among other stakeholders.

The collapsed Mori bridge at Chikanda in Yashikira District of Barutean LGA is an international border connecting communities in Nigeria and Benin Republic which on daily basis, thousands of people and goods pass through it.
