The Nigerian Labour Congress, (NLC), Kwara State Chapter was on Tuesday 29th of December, 2020 disclosed its position on the sacked 2,414 SUBEB Teachers by the Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq led administration in the state.
The organized labour union which made an appeal to the Governor AbdulRazaq for re-absorption of the sacked teachers through a press statement signed by its state chairman, Aliyu Issa Ore and made available to this medium.
The statement reads in part “the congress on behalf of the entire workers of the state express our profound season’s greetings to His Excelency for the festive season and to appreciate most sincerely for given approval for the immediate payment of the seven months outstanding salaries of 594 State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) teachers which was earlier withheld”
“The congress received with grave shock and concern, the decision of the State Government to disengage those workers employed by the immediate past administration tagged ‘Sunset Workers’ under the guise of not qualified to take the job as teachers”
The workers union, however said that the decision that led to the sacked of that large number of workers was too harsh on the affected peoples, their family and dependants.
“The personal effect on the part of those concerned is that they have been rendered jobless, and this would makes life unbearable for them and their family. Moreover, their sacked had already created vacuum in the classrooms in which is not good for the development of the innocent students”
Stressed further that with that decision, “Government will have to re-engage new hands with shallow field experience which may have a big setback on the students”
“We are pleading with His Excellency and the Government of Kwara State to please rescind their decision on this issue so that these teachers can be re-absorbed to continue their jobs so that the rate of unemployment will not continue to be on the increase in the state”
