The Acting Vice Chancellor, Kwara State University (KWASU), Prof. Jimoh Shayk-Luqman has charged graduands of the university to uphold the values the institution was known for.
Prof. Shayk-Luqman gave the charge on Saturday in Malete at the 10th and 11th Combined Convocation Ceremony.
The Acting vice chancellor said the years they have spent under the university ‘s tutelage have exposed them to the requirements needed to face the world.
”Core among the values you have acquired is the importance and value of contributing to all communities.
“Significantly also, you have been shown why and how to advance your environment through responsible actions which will not damage the ecosystem.
”You have equally been grounded on the need to be self-sustaining, I urge you to define your future by the extent of your imaginations,” he said.
Prof. Shayk-Luqman added that as an institution meeting human capital needs, it remained resolute to producing total graduates with skills and ability to help them adapt and excel in a fast-changing world characterised by rapid development in science and technology.
He said the university was convoking 16, 315 graduands out of which 11,096 were for first degrees and 767 for higher degrees in the 2021/2022 academic session.
”For the 2022/2023 academic session, we have 4107 for first degrees and 345 for higher degrees.
”Cumulatively, 183 has First Class, 5,145 has 2nd class Upper Division, 8420 had 2nd Class Lower Division, 1,455 has 3rd class, 195 hfor Ph.D and 917 for Masters Degree,” Prof. Shayk-Lukman said.
KWASU Chancellor, Dr Johnson Adewumi, said the university was known for excellence especially in contributing to the advancement of not just the state but the world at large.
”The University through its collaborations continues to improve the teaching, learning and research activities.
”We have become a reference among universities locally and internationally.
”New programmes, at both undergraduate and graduate levels are being introduced and these have continued to attractstudents from across the world to KWASU to pursuevarious field of academic endeavours,” Dr Adewumi said.
Kwara Governor and Visitor to the university, Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq said KWASU is a reference among state-owned universities in Nigeria.
Abdulrazaq who was represented by Dr Mary Arinde, Commissioner of Tertiary Education said the university has transformed the destiny of the host community, Malete, in terms of grwoth and development.
He said Malete is an example of how educational institutions can help stem rural-urban drift and speed up development process.
The Best Graduating Student, Joshua Essien in his valedictory speech said the graduanfs were ready to embark on the transformative journey that lies ahead of them.
He said as graduands, they were not just recipients of degrees, but as architects of their own futures.
Essien charged his fellow graduands to be agents of change, problem solvers and innovators that the society desperately needs. (NAN)
