LG Poll: KWASU Chancellor In Strategic Meeting With APC Chairmanship Candidates, Stakeholders In Kwara South

Kwara South stakeholders in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC ) have mapped out strategies to win convincingly in the forthcoming local government elections in the State. 

At a strategic meeting convened at the weekend in Oko in Irepodun Local government, the party leaders vowed to approach the election with all the seriousness that it deserves. 

The meeting, convened by the Chancellor of Kwara State University, Malete and Founder of the Kwara State Development Initiative (KSDI), Dr. Johnson Adewumi, was attended by all the APC  Chairmanship and Vice chairmanship candidates in the seven local governments in Kwara South Senatorial district; the Director Generals of the Campaign Councils, the party chairmen in the seven local governments and some elders from the Senatorial district. 

At the heart of the discussions and decisions by the Stakeholders was the desire to undertake issues-based campaign and ensure compliance with the campaign promises when elected. 

Dr Adewumi, who is also the Asiwaju of Oko Irese land set the tone for the strategy session by enumerating the landmark achievements of Kwara State Governor, HE AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq , CON in Kwara South, charging the prospective council Chairmen to domesticate and localise the Governor’s Infrastructural development.

“We can all see what this Governor is doing in Kwara South, the road projects he is doing are so strategic to our development, the Odofin bridge, the Oro Ago bridge, the Omuaran Oko road project which he is determined to expand to Oro ago; the Ajasse-Okeya- Igbaja road; the Oro-Esie-Agbonda- Arandun road which cuts  across four wards in Irepodun, in addition to the road projects earlier done in Ekiti axis, Offa, Erinle and ibolo corridors. The Governor has done well for us, we must continue to support him and the best way to do it is for our local governments to perform well so that as State leader as the ruling party leader, Mallam AbdulRazaq will be fulfilled seeing real development in the rural communities”

The Deputy Speaker, Kwara State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Ojo Olayiwola commended Dr. Adewumi not only for convening the strategic meeting but for showcasing Oko as a reference point  for community development with topclass educational institutions, hospitals with the state of the art facilities and 3 resident doctors, thriving cooperative societies, et extra.

“You are a pride to us in Kwara South Sir and we thank you for being a friend of our performing Governor who is bringing joy to us in Kwara State” Ojo State” Ojo added

An APC Chieftain and former commissioner in Kwara State, Oloriewe Raheem Adedoyin corroborated Dr. Adewumi’s testimonials on Gov. AbdulRazaq. He urged the council Chairmen when elected to “make the people’s welfare and rural development,  the cornerstone of their administrations”. 

Special Adviser to the Governor on political affairs, Alh. Femi Whyte canvassed for house- to- house campaigns, adding that the 21st September, 2024 local government elections in Kwara State  “must be approached like a general election”

Spokesperson of the seven party chairmen, and Acting Chairman of Irepodun APC, Hajia Rashidat Kazeem said as the party is leading the campaign for the forthcoming elections, the party must be reckoned with also after the election as the vehicle for the fulfilment of the electoral promises. 

The Deputy Director General of the Ekiti APC Campaign, Mr. Oladotun, said the campaign councils are taking notes of the needs of the people as they move around the communities. 

Responding to the various contributions, the Chairmanship candidates Hon. Wale Awelewa, Ekiti, James Fadipe Abiodun, Oke Ero, Hon. Femi Yusuf, Ifelodun, Alh. Jamar Olanrewaju, Oyun Alhamdullahi. Olatunji Sulaiman (Omituntun), Offa, Hon. Benjamin Jolayemi, Offa and Hon. Yakubu Azeez, Irepodun) pledged to implement pro-people policies with a firm promise to follow the developmental  footsteps of Governor AbdulRazaq .

The Vice Chairmanship candidates in attendance were: Mrs Latifat Bakare, Oke Ero; Mrs Rebecca Funmilayo Abolude, Irepodun;  Mrs Ganiyat Sanni, Isin; Mrs Nike Ajibola, Ifelodun;  Mrs Modupe Ajibade (nee Olawoyin), Offa; Alhaja Jemilat Funmilayo Abioye, Oyun.

Also present at the meeting were Hon. Rasak Omotosho (Belumi), member Kwara State House of Assembly and DG, Isin Campaign;  Rt. Hon CT Ayeni, former Deputy Speaker, Kwara State House of Assembly, Barr. Kayode Towoju, former Executive Chairman, Oke Ero Local Government and former commissioner Agriculture,  Kwara State, Alhaji. Murtala Olanrewaju, former Commissioner for  Communication,  Kwara State and DDG, Oyun campaign ; Prof. Bashir Ibahim, DG, Irepodun campaign, Arch. Fatai Olatinwo , Offa; Alh. Fatai Garba Labaka, DG, Ifelodun campaign, Barr.  Rachael Ashaolu, DG Oke Ero; Arch. DG, Offa campaign, Kunle Awolola, DG2, Isin.

Others were the seven party chairmen in Kwara South, namely: Hon. Segun Awobagbade ( Obaway),  Isin;  Mr. Bamidele James Kayode, Oke Ero; Mr. Kayode Adewoye, Oyun,;  Hajia Rashidat Kazeem, Irepodun;  Arch. Lukman Abubakar, Ifelodun; Mr. Kunle Adegboye, Offa.
