The Nigerian Police Force, Kwara State Command has announced a restriction on all vehicular movement from Friday midnight until 6 PM on Saturday
to ensure security and the smooth conduct of the state’s council elections.
This was made known in a statement released and signed by the Public Relations Officer of the command, DSP Toun Ejire-Adeyemi pm behalf of the Commissioner, CP Victor Olaiya on Friday noon.

The statement reads in part “The Kwara State Police Command wishes to inform the public that there will be restriction of all vehicular movement. This will be imposed from 12:00 AM to 6:00 PM on Saturday, 21st September 2024, in relation to the upcoming Local Government Elections.
“This measure has been put in place to ensure the security and smooth conduct of the electoral process.
“However, exceptions will be given to persons rendering essential services, accredited electoral officials, authorized media personnel, electoral observers and emergency responders.
“Armed Security Personnel on VIP protection/escort duties have been restricted from escorting their VIPs to the polling boots.
“We urge all residents to comply with this directive, and we emphasize that any individual found violating the curfew will face the full wrath of the law.

“Your cooperation is crucial to maintaining peace and order during this important civic exercise.”
Similarly, The Customs Area Controller, Kwara Area Command, Compt. FM Ojeifo has also urged officers deployed for the council election to remain apolitical and exhibit professionalism.

Addressing officers at the parade ground ahead of deployment on Friday, Ojeifo said “I urged you to be neutral and exhibit professionalism before, during and after the election.
“Our major responsible is to observe and compliment the Nigerian Police Force and other security agencies deployed for this assignment.”
Meanwhile, the State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Dr. Umar J.G. Mohammed, has ordered the deployment of over 3,000 personnel across the 16 local government areas of the state for security beef-up ahead of the polls.

Disclosing this via a statement released and signed by the Public Relations Officer of the Command, ASC 1 Ayoola Micheal Shola, said the deployed officers will man various polling units and synchronize efforts with other sister security agencies to ensure the peaceful conduct of the election.
“Our primary responsibility is to create an environment where the local government election can be conducted peacefully, free from violence, intimidation, ballot snatching, and any other disruptive actions.
“We will not tolerate any form of political thuggery, violence, or hooliganism and any action aimed at disrupting the electoral process will be met with immediate and decisive action.
“NSCDC personnel have been thoroughly briefed and will collaborate with other sister security agencies at the polling units. Special forces, such as Operation Harmony, the Counter-Terrorism Unit, and the Female Squad, will be patrolling the state to enhance security.”
