New facts have emerged on the business complex of Kwara APC stalwart, Hon. Mashood Mustapha (MM), which was marked for demolition by the Kwara State Government on Monday.
Speaking on this, the Head of Media and Public Relations to Hon. MM, Dr. Opeyemi Aregbesola, said the Evidence from the available documents has invalidated the claim made by the governor’s spokesperson that MM’s business complex located along Sulu Gambari Road, GRA, Ilorin, encroached on government setbacks.
”From the building plan it is clear that the business complex was erected based on the Kwara State Government’s approved building plan.
”The areas marked in red in the pictorial evidence provided by the government are within the approved land area granted to Mashood Mustapha by the Kwara State Government in 2016. Therefore, the question on the lips of concerned Kwarans is, why did the government approve the building plan if there was truly an encroachment?
Government approved plan
”Hon. MM is a progressive-minded individual and a strong advocate of due process that can never be against developmental projects that will give a facelift to the state but the government must obey its approval. The entire land area housing Crystal Place was duly approved by the Kwara State Government, so, the claim of encroachment is inaccurate.”
“Based on the available evidence, there seems to be a hidden agenda behind the proposed demolition of a section of Crystal Place by the Kwara State Government. The last has not been heard on this issue.”
Recall that the property in discussion was marked for demolition by the government official on Monday, 13th May 2024 with the demolition notice placed within and outside the property located along Zulu Gambari/Ahmadu Bello Roads.
Marked areas
Similarly, we could recall that in a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary, CPS to the governor, Rafiu Ajakaye, late hours on Monday said the marked areas in the complex are government setback.
The statement read “There is no such thing as the government being set to demolish MM’s building or complex. What has been marked are the fence of the structure and some kiosks that conspicuously eat into government setbacks. As a matter of fact, parts of the main complex encroach on the setback at Ahmadu Bello Way and Sulu-Gambari Road. We all know the rules. However, the KWGIS is only concerned with the fence and the adjoining kiosks that offend the setbacks on the two roads. No more, no less.
“The lines marked in red in the drawing above showed the land area occupied by the building owned by MM. Anything outside of that red line is outside of the CoO approved for the structure.
“Everything to the right of the red line is the government setback. That is where the fence and the kiosks are. It is what has been marked to give way for the road project.”
