Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has said the involvement of media in government policies and projects is key to dividends of democracy.
The governor also said such partnership would help the government to deliver more on its manifestos to the people.
The Special Adviser on Media Projects and Communication Strategy to the governor, Mr. Crusoe Osagie, disclosed this on Wednesday during the commencement of media tour of government projects across the three Senatorial District in the State.
He stated that the administration keyed into the idea of media tour in order to give journalists firsthand information about its activities.
According to him, “journalists have the role of informing the public; and it is important that they visit some of the projects completed and those ongoing in order to have an indepth knowledge of the information they reel out to the public”.
He thanked the chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in the State, Mr. Festus Alekhen for coming up with such initiative.
Earlier, the NUJ chairman said: “We want to eye mark and not earmark. We have been hearing about the government’s activities but today, we think it is appropriate we also see for ourselves”.
The projects visited include: National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) camp in Okada, Ovia North East, Edo State Polytechnic, Usen, Ovia South West, University of Benin, Ovia North East, Government Science and Technological College, Egor, College of Agriculture, Iguoriakhi, Ovia South West amongst others.(Blueprint)
