Kwara Lawmaker Charges FG On Dry Season Farming In North Central, Distributes Palliatives To Constituents

A member of the House of Representatives, representing Edu, Moro, and Patigi Federal Constituency of Kwara state, Hon. Ahmed Adam Saba has charged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to ensure timely implementation of dry season farming in the North Central zone.

Hon. Saba said the project had already been captured in 2023 appropriation and it has commenced in the North West urged Tinubu to give the nod for it to commence in North Central too said it will create job opportunities for the youth and make food more available for the nation and affordable prices.

The lawmaker made the call while speaking with journalists at Shonga, Edu local government area of Kwara state, during the empowerment and distribution of palliatives to his constituents at the weekend.

“He said speedy implementation of the dry season farming by the Federal government would enable farmers have access to farm  inputs and produce food in large quantity.

“The project had already been captured in 2023 appropriation and North West has already started and I believe there is the need to speed up the implementation for the North Central too.

“The North Central states which are close to River Niger has the capacity and fertile land for the production of Maize, Rice and Cassava to make food available and affordable to the teaming population.”

Hon. Saba stated that the rice, beans, and other food items distributed as palliatives in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development were produced in the same locality and its of high quality.

“As you can see the food items on the ground, all are produced locally. We are also empowering over two hundred people across the three local government areas that make up my constituency with working tools, cash grants, and food items to ameliorate the sufferings that come with fuel subsidy removal.”

He however commended President Tinubu for initiating the dry season farming programme to ensure a full surplus in the country.

The lawmaker also appealed to the beneficiaries of the empowerment materials not to sell the items given to them, adding that they should ensure they are used for the purposes they are meant for.

Some of the beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the Federal government and the lawmaker for the privilege and efforts in alleviating poverty in the land.
