NAFDAC pronounces ban on imported noodles

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), has said importation of Indomie noodles to Nigeria has been banned following allegations of a cancer-causing chemical found in the noodles and non-registration of the agency.

Speaking with Journalists on Monday, that Director General of NAFDAC, Mojisola Adeyeye, said the agency started investigation immediately it got wind of the recall of the products by Taiwan and Malaysia authorities.

She further stated that, “Tomorrow, May 2, 2023, NAFDAC’s food safety and applied nutrition directorate will randomly sample Indomie noodles (including the seasoning) from the production facilities while post marketing surveillance directorate samples from the markets.”

Anxiety has continued to build in last few days after a reported cancer-causing noodles found its way into Nigeria’s markets with massive advertisement and all manner of awareness campaign.
