Barring last minute changes, Ibrahim Gusau, President, Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, will be in Ilorin on Sunday for a two-day activities loaded package geared at promoting football in the state and country, according details from Kwara State Football Association, FA.
As gathered, Gusau will be in the state courtesy of a detailed strategic plan by Hon Idris Abdullahi Musa, known popularly in football circle as ‘Thuraya’, the FA chairman, to promote the round leather game and to have soccer stakeholders have a one and one and face to face rapprochement with the country’s number one soccer administrator.
“We have said it times without number that Kwara has so much to offer football.
“The NFF president’s visit to the state shows that the highest echelon of soccer administration have heard us loud and clear,” explained Thuraya on the purpose of the visit.
Kwara State of recent has been making strong statement as a football hub and home for grooming soccer talents.
Gusau, going by the schedules of the visit as revealed by the FA chairman in a press release, will hold a townhall meeting at the Indoor Sports Hall of the Kwara State Stadium, where he will be speaking with and listening to critical stakeholders of the state’s football confraternity.
By Monday, Gusau and the state’s FA will meet with the governor, Mall Abdulrahaman Abdulrazaq, on a courtesy call.
The football entourage will then proceed to the Emir of Ilorin, HRM Ibrahim Sulu Gambari’s palace to meet with the royal father.
By the evening of Monday, the NFF president will be at the opening ceremony of the prestigious Under-15 Governor’s Cup, a football tournament sponsored by Sen. Sadiq Umar, senatorial rep of Kwara North and another strong sports enthusiast.
In recent times, the north central state has seen more sponsorship of grassroots soccer tournament from either public personalities or private sector players.
Details gathered on the opening ceremony have it that there will be a trophy presentation, giving of jerseys to all 16 local government participants in the championship and match past by participating teams at the main bowl of the Kwara State Stadium.
