A lecturer at Alhikmah University, Dr. Sanusi Lafiagi has called on Nigerians to be hopeful in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s led administration, said the country just got a true democrat and well-prepared person as president since 1999.

Sanusi opined this at a lecture he delivered at The Companion Kwara District 2023 Elective Conference, held in Ilorin, Kwara state capital.

Said since 1999, we have always had accidental leaders excluding the current president Tinubu. Olusegun Obasanjo, Umar Yaradua, Goodluck Jonathan, and immediate past, Mohammadu Buhari never a Democrat.

“One thing that I always says before this administration came into power is that the hope we had in 2015 when we elected the immediate past president Buhari was dashed in a lot of ways. But, We have to renew our hope, I believe that is why this administration came up with the slogan of renewed hope.

“Our country has been on auto-pilot since 1999. We have always had accidental leaders except the current president.

“Here is my analysis, President Olusegun Obasanjo was released from prison, put on the ballot paper, and eventually thrown into helms of affairs to please West in compensation for Abiola dashed ambition. He only had a military background, never a Democrat for one day.

“After him, we had a lecturer Musa Yaradua, who was only hoping to be governor not the president of Nigeria. Only for him to be brought by cabal and voted into power as President. He was a classroom lecturer, not a Democrat, then to be supported by another lecturer of geography, Goodluck Jonathan as Vice President who was of course an accidental leader by virtue of only being favoured by power that be not a real contender.

“Jonathan’s presidency was also by accident he was never prepared for it.

“Then we had Mohammadu Buhari again whose life ambition was just to become president, he had a Military background, never a Democrat. He ruled for eight years, when, Alihamdulilah, we survived, but we all know what we went through under his administration.

“When you look at Obasanjo, Yaradua, Jonathan, and Buhari administrations, the cry has always been ‘Cabal in Aso Rock’ because these guys were brought into power by the same Cabals. It was clear that Buhari was not in control.

“But, this Tinubu himself is a cabal. He has been installing governors in Lagos State since 2003 till date. He is the only opposition leader that had survived for over 20 years in opposition politics. With this, Tinubu coming to power is not by accident. I am of the opinion that Tinubu has prepared for this moment and Nigerians just elected the best person in terms of administration. We just have to be hopeful and always support him with prayer, may Allah guide him.

The don also expressed concern over the quality of people to be appointed into offices said  “Tinubu has to be circumspect in choosing people that will run the administration with him, the people with capacity, integrity, and experience must be considered because the quality of lieutenants is as important as a leader.”

Sanusi also charged Tinubu to come out with a clear economic policy to tackle poverty and inequality.

The scholar also tasked the Muslim organizations on the importance of mentorship said this will enable future leaders that will have the interest of the citizens of the country at heart based on the dictates of Allah.
