Management of the Kwara State University (KWASU) Malete, has disowned participants in the solidarity rally by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) against ongoing strike in public universities, who carried banner in the name of the institution.
The participant’s disowned was made known in a disclaimer statement signed by the Registrar of the institution, Dr Mrs Wasilat Sallee, a copy of which was obtained by the Accurate News.
The management noted that the inscriptions in the displayed banner did not represent its view about the government of the state whatsoever, and urged the public to disregard the same.
“The attention of the Management of the Kwara State University (KWASU) has been drawn to the banner displayed by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), KWASU Branch during the solidarity rally by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC).
“The views expressed in the banner do not represent the views of KWASU Management and should be disregarded.
“The University, since inception, has enjoyed the support and goodwill of its proprietor, the Kwara State Government.
“The University has many capital projects undertaken by the Government. Recently, the Government under the able leadership of Alhaji AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq committed huge funds to the completion of the Osi and Ilesa Baruba campuses of the University,” the statement read in part.
The statement noted that the university had been assured of intervention funds once the dwindling finances of the state government improved.
It stated that the university appreciated the gestures of the state government. As a result of this, the authority said the university would continue to support the efforts of the government in positioning the institution for local and international competitiveness.
