The Director-General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Malam Lanre Issa-Onilu, has urged Nigerians to be optimistic, saying that the country’s future is very bright with a series of developmental initiatives by President Bola Tinubu-led administration.
Onilu made this appeal at the media interactive session organized by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kwara State Council, in Ilorin, on Thursday with the theme “Can Citizens Still Be Hopeful in a Renewed Hope Era?”
He emphasized the need for patriotism among Nigerians, urging citizens to embrace positive attitudes that will contribute to the nation’s progress.
According to him, the situation inherited by President Tinubu requires a complete overhaul to ensure economic viability.
“We always have hope as a country, what was needed is the right person, who would bestow confidence in us as citizens and make Nigeria project a collective responsibility of everyone.
“The first step of repositioning the country’s economy was indeed taken through the announcement of the subsidy removal, of course, the federal government had no better option than to remove the fuel subsidy when President Tinubu assumed office.
“While the decision was widely criticized, some Nigerians shared the president’s vision and only urged him to expedite efforts to rebuild the economy.”
He added that the country has not been fully optimizing its economic potential, which is why the Tinubu administration is focused on repositioning Nigeria for a more sustainable future.
“For microeconomic improvements to take effect, macroeconomic indicators must first be stabilized and the present administration is making steady efforts in that regard with result in increment in revenue generation.
“For the first time, we have a budget of 49 to 54 trillion naira, this is possible because of the revenue generation capacity of this administration.
“States are now sharing more than double what they used to share before in terms of monthly allocation from FG.
“The stock market has been reinvigorated, restoring investor confidence and attracting businesses to the country.”
He however called on Nigerians to embrace a culture of conservation and actively contribute to national growth and development, “There is every reason for us to be hopeful as a nation and we can only make it a reality through our actions as government and people.”
