NPC urges Nigerians to participate in 2023 census

The National Population Commission, NPC, has pledged to rewrite the history of census in Nigeria to promote national growth and development.

The Chairman of the National Census Publicity Committee, Alhaji Nasir Isa Kwarra, stated this in Abuja at capacity building workshop for the National Census Publicity Committee, NCPC, on the 2023 census processes and methodology.

Alhaji Nasir Isa Kwarra, who emphasized that this year’s census would take place simultaneously in every household in the country, stated that continued publicity and enlightenment is essential for the exercise’s success.

The chairman of the NCPC who is also the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed represented by the Director General National Orientation Agency, Dr Garba Abari said it is not just enough for citizens to be counted but they should be enlightened more on why, how and where they are to be counted.

A member of the NCPC and Director General Voice of Nigeria, Mr Osita Okechukwu said that citizens needed to understand that the census is not a competition therefore everyone should remain where they reside.

The exercise, which will take place between the third and seventh of May, is necessary for planning and critical program interventions for all people, regardless of tribe, religion, or nationality.
