Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Kwara State, have arrested a 32-year-old woman, Mariam Yusuf, for allegedly stealing baskets of tomatoes and peppers at a Kulende market in Ilorin, the State capital.
The suspect, who was arrested by men of the NSCDC on Wednesday following a tip-off, allegedly stole tomatoes and peppers at the market in Ilorin.
The spokesman of the NSCDC, Ayeni Olasunkanmi, confirmed the incident in a statement on Thursday.
He said the suspect has confessed to the crime and will be charged to court soon.
Olasunkanmi said: “A 32-year-old Mariam Yusuf was arrested by the NSDCD personnel of Kulende outpost for stealing baskets of tomatoes and peppers at Kulende market. The suspect was arrested on the 5th of April following a report by the traders in the market.
“Issues of stealing within Kulende market has become a serious issue between the traders, such that, they have been suspecting each other of stealing. The matter has generated alot of infighting between them.
“However, luck ran out for Mariam Yusuf on Wednesday 5th of April when our personnel at Kulende out post under Tanke Division apprehended her for stealing tomatoes and other ingredients.
Mariam has confessed to the crime and necessary legal action will be taken soon.”
