NYSC Swears in 1,500 Corp Members in Jigawa

The National Youth Service Corps in Jigawa State, on Tuesday formally sworn-in 15,000 corp members for the Batch B Stream I mandatory one year service. 

Representing the Director General of the NYSC, the State Coordinator of NYSC in Jigawa State, Hajia Aishatu Adamu, charged the corp members to utilise the opportunity by participating in all camp activities diligently. 

According to her, “I am highly delighted to welcome you on board as you are formally inducted into the National Youth Service Corps. I congratulate you on your graduation from your various institutions of learning and your subsequent mobilisation for the National Service. I also commend your patriotism as demonstrated through your acceptance of deployment and prompt resumption to the Orientation Camp.

“My dear compatriots, the orientation Corp is the first cardinal programme of the NYSC. It is aimed at introducing youths to the objectives and programmes of the scheme. It is designed to equip youth for the service year through skill acquisition and community development, leadership coaching, paramilitary dills and other physical training as well as topical national issues among others.

“It is also a platform for impacting them activities that will enable them to realise the potential and attain individual feat both during and after service. 

“I therefore enjoin you to utilise this once in a lifetime potentials by participating in all camp activities. As you may be aware, one of the objectives of the NYSC is the promotion of national unity and integration.

Describing the oath taking as significant, Hajia Adamu noted that corp members should be guided by the law and principles of NYSC at all times.

“Let me also remind you that the oath of allegiance you have taken today is significant, as it is expected to guide your conduct in the service year as well as have an everlasting influence on their lives after service.

“You are also enjoined to familiarize yourself with the provision of the NYSC act and the by-laws. I employ you to sustain a high level of discipline and enthusiasm you have demonstrated so far, expecially by remaining in compliance with the rules and regulations. 

She further advised them to distance themselves from all acts that is inimical to their progress and to also be security conscious. 

“You must continue to distance yourself from cultism, drug abuse and other social vices. I also urge you to avoid using the social media for spreading fake news and  fuelling hatered.

“You are also advised to be security conscious at all times and to report any suspicious character or activities around you to the appropriate authorities.

The State Coordinator stated categorically the efforts NYSC is making towards the creation of Job opportunities for the youths and most expecially the corp members.

“I will like to remind you that white collar job are not readily available, therefore, I want to avail yourself the opportunity for self employment through the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development, SAED.

“You are expected to choose from any of the theme bearer and make themselves available for the training and we will continue to work with relevant stakeholders for the success of the programme. 

Also speaking, the Camp Commandant, Captain Kuba Magaji, reteriate the need for strict compliance of the corp cembers with the rules and regulations of the camp.

The Chief Judge of Jigawa who is represented by Barrister Awalu Saliu led the oath-taking and sample signing of some selected Corp Members across the 10 platoons.
