Olomu lays foundation for Omu-Aran Township Stadium

The Olomu of Omu-Aran, Oba Abdulraheem Adeoti, has laid the foundation for the construction of Omu-Aran Township Stadium, Omu-Aran, headquarters of Irepodun local government area of Kwara.

The project which is facilitated by the member representing Ekiti, Isin, Irepodun and Oke-Ero Federal Constituency of Kwara, Rep Tunji Olawuyi, when completed is expected to improve sporting activities in the constituency.

Oba Adeoti who thanked the Federal Lawmaker for his many people-oriented projects in the community and the entire constituency, said apart from the lucrative aspect of sports, the facility when completed would make his people embrace exercise which is germane to good health.

In his remark, Rep Olawuyi said his target is to create an enabling environment for the young ones to have a platform to pursue their dream of becoming a sports superstar.

The Chairman House Committee on Emergency and Disaster Preparedness, also explained that sports are a lucrative business which must be given attention adding that the only way to promote it is to construct facilities.

“If you have a stadium like the one we are about to construct, it is a potential platform to improve sporting activities in our constituency.

“Apart from the financial aspect of it, there are so many other things that sorround the construction of the edifice because it will improve the economic activities of our constituency” Olawuyi said.

The representative of the Contractor, Skiddo Construction Company Limited, Engr Bolaji Azeez, who gave a breakdown of what to expect, said the stadium would have a 3000 capacity.

He said it will also have a shopping mall and shops where people can sell to those sportsmen and women that will be using the edifice when completed.

Azeez explained that the pitch will come with a tartan track, perimeter fence while there will be other facilities like for table tennis, basketball among others.

While praising the effort of the Federal Lawmaker, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Irepodun local government chairman, Hon. Azeez Yakubu, said he is delighted to know of the project.

He believed that the stadium will help engage the youth of the constituency constructively and help them to pursue a career in sports.
