Osun state government has beefed up security to prevent looting of the federal government rice palliative delivered to the state.

The decision was taken to avoid replication of the Bayelsa incident pending the receipt of the second batch and subsequent distribution of the palliative.

The state had reportedly received rice from the federal government on 5th and the distribution was delayed because of the remaining 600 bags and the second batch of the palliative being awaited in the state.

Speaking with our correspondent on efforts put in place to avoid looting, the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, Monday said: “We have put enough security measures in place, for those that may want to take advantage of the fact that we are still expecting another consignment from federal government to loot the one we have at hand.

“We have informed security operatives and we have built more security around the warehouses to make it impossible for anybody to loot the palliative meant for the vulnerable of the society.

“We are still updating the people of the state on development over the palliative because we heard information that some consignment will arrive Monday. So, when we receive it, we are going to update the people on what is going on,” Alimi said. (Blueprint)
