Over 40 reportedly trapped in collapsed Building

Over 40 persons are reportedly trapped in a two storey Building that collapsed at 7th avenue, Gwarimpa, Abuja.

The Director, FCT Department of Development Control, Murktar Galadima, who confirmed the incident to journalists, said emergency responders with security personnel are on ground to rescue more persons.

Galadima who said the rescue operation was ongoing with combined team of several agencies, said 7 persons have been rescued and taken to hospital with several workers still trapped on the rumbles of the ill-fated building.

The Coordinator, Abuja Metropolitan Management Council (AMMC) Umar Shuaibu who said the council won’t apportioned any blame to anybody yet, assured that  investigation will commence immediately to ascertain both the remote and immediate cause of the collapse.

According to an eye witness, John Edwin, the workers in the site, especially laborers conveying blocks to the top, were over 40.

He claimed to have lived in the area for many years, and that he has always known the place to be a reserved green area.

Edwin urged relevant authorities to call the management of Federal Housing Authority to question, for illegally allocating Green areas to commercial complex. (RN)
