Diginataries at the closing ceremony of a Qur’anic competition organised by Okelele Youths League(OYUL) in Ilorin, Kwara State, on Friday stressed the importance of acquisition of Information Technology Communication(ICT) to the growth of the Nigerian youths.
The dignitaries who spoke at the event included the sponsor of the competition, Alh Saadu Salahu ( special adviser on Strategy to Kwara State governor), special assistant on Religion (Islam), Alh Ibrahim Danmaigoro, senior special assistant on Adult Literacy, Dr AbdulGaniyu Ayub and the guest lecturer, Imam Babatunde Abdulkadir.
Salahu urged the youths to embrace ICT and become entrepreneurs who will create job opportunities rather than seeking for the unavailable white collar job.
He said the state government has put in place an innovation hub to encourage the learning of ICT by the people of the state, especially the youths.
He thanked the organisers for their interest in the educational advancement of the youths, an initiative he noted will impact positively not only in the youths, but the society at large.
For his part, Danmaigoro counseled the youths on the need to remain focus on educational attainment.
He said Islam as a religion places high premium on education and mandates its adherents to seek knowledge anywhere across the globe.
The guest lecturer, Imam Abdulkadir, enjoined the youths to prioritise the acquisition of ICT.
The cleric said every human endeavours are now technology- driven and anyone without a knowledge of ICT would be left behind.
The OYUL president, AbdulKabir Gatta, said the competition was organised to keep the youths productively engaged in the last part of Ramadan fast.
