At least 10 persons were confirmed injured on Sunday, following a clash between some gunmen and suspected cultists at Aguleri, Anambra East Local Government Area, the hometown of the immediate past governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano.
According to sources, the battle which began at about 11 am lasted for almost an hour, and at the end, the police, the gunmen and some civilians sustained degrees of injuries.
When contacted, the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident but insisted that no police officer was wounded.
“The situation has been brought under control, on the directive of the Commissioner of Police , Echeng Echeng. The deputy commissioner of Police in charge of operations, led police operatives to the scene and prevented the youths from attacking the police station.
“We have made some arrests, infact, over 15 persons and recovered some dangerous weapons. We have also intensified patrols in the area, aimed at enhancing peace and safety,” he said.
