Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested two women for allegedly stealing a one-week-old baby boy in Ota, Ogun State.
According to reports gathered, the police officers made the arrest on July 25 after one of the suspects, 53-year-old Chinyere Nwosu, was seen with the baby around 9 am that same day and this raised suspicions among residents as she was unable to breastfeed the child.
During interrogation, she confessed that she bought the child from one Ngozi Akaeme who resides at Agege area of Lagos State for 500,000 naira.
Ogun police spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi said, “Upon the information, the DPO of Sango Ota, SP Dahiru Saleh, detailed his detectives to the scene where the woman was promptly arrested.”
After arresting Akaeme, she disclosed that “she actually negotiated with the biological mother of the baby who agreed to sell the baby.”
According to the PPRO, they have been unable to find the biological mother of the child.
Oyeyemi revealed that the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, has directed that the two suspects should be transferred to the State CIID for further investigation and possible prosecution. (FRCN)
