The Imo State Police Command has dismissed seven of its personnel over brutality, harassment, extortion and other criminl offences.
In a statement, the spokesperson for the Police Command, Mike Abattam, says the officers were also found guilty for illegal checking of phones and flagrant disobedience to IGP’s directive on extortion and inappropriate conduct towards members of the public.
Mr Abattam says the dismissed officers were arrested on November 8, 2022 in a bank at Umuahia, Abia State, while performing illegal duty outside their jurisdiction and conspiracy to extort money from an innocent victim.
He explained that they were tried and found guilty of the charges leveled against them, and were summarily dismissed as well as charged to Magistrate Court, Owerri.
The Police spokesperson warns other officers against indulging in sharp practices as any personnel found complicit will face disciplinary actions.
The statement directs officers in charge of the Inspector-General of Police X-Squad Unit and the Commissioner of Police Monitoring Unit to commence high-level monitoring of the police officers within and outside the metropolis to forestall any unprofessional conduct by police officers.
