Police Kill Robbery Suspect, Recover Stolen Car In Kwara

The anti-robbery squad of the Kwara State Police Command on Wednesday shot dead a suspected member of a  five-man armed robbery gang and recovered a Toyota Camry car in the Sango area of Ilorin metropolis.

It was gathered that the hoodlums, driving in a Toyota Corolla car, had snatched a Toyota Camry from its owner in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, earlier on Wednesday.

It was also gathered that the suspects, numbering five, divided themselves into two groups, with three in the Toyota Corolla which was reportedly snatched and another two members inside the Toyota Camry.

It was further gathered that luck ran out of the suspected armed robbers, who were trying to escape to Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, when they were intercepted and chased by police operatives.

A source told journalists that the suspected armed robbers in the Toyota Camry were trapped at Kulende, Sango area of the state capital during the hot chase where one of them was shot in the neck.

“He lost consciousness and hit the vehicle against an electric pole. The pole broke into two, and the vehicle also hit some shops, damaging property The armed robbers with bullet wound died while the other occupant escaped. The policemen, who later came, cordoned the area,” the source said.

When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Ejire Adeyemi-Adetoun,  confirmed the incident, adding that an investigation into it has commenced.

“I’m aware of the incident,one of the armed robbers was shot dead,while others escaped.We have started investigation into the incident,” she said. (Punch)
