The Nigerian Police force, kwara state command as rejected a report published by an online platform, describing kwara as ‘New Haven of Kidnappers’.

In a statement signed by the Police spokesperson, SP Okasanmi Ajayi (anipr) reads in part “Kwara State Police Command wishes to reject outright a report by an online medium which, on the basis of a few isolated but unfortunate abduction cases, called Kwara state the new haven for kidnappers”

“The profiling, especially the headline, is baseless and against the interest of the general public”

“While the security community in support of the state government continue to work together to curtail breaches which are sadly of the copycat syndrome, it is dangerous for anyone to hide under the unfortunate situation to undermine the effort of the police by unnecessarily tagging the state as a haven for kidnappers”

“Everyone has a duty to promote public order and avoid statements that could create unnecessary apprehension in the minds of the citizens”

“It will do everyone especially some unsuspecting members of the media a lot of good to avoid unknowingly giving cheap publicity to criminals whose major oxygen is undue media attention and lionization of their antics”

Meanwhile, we could recall that the kidnapping cases has been on rampant in the state in recent times and four people abducted around Obbo Ayegunle/Osi axis of Ekiti Local Government area of the state are still in the custody of the Kidnappers as at the time of filling this report.

The statement further noted that the Commissioner of Police, CP Tuesday Assayomo psc+, has reassured residents of the state of better security of lives and properties, and called on the people to always volunteer information that could lead to the arrest of the criminals and curb the menace.
