The phrase “politics is local” is more apparent to me now than it has ever been as I clearly see the significance of local participation and representation at the grassroots.
Today, I will join other stakeholders in my ward (Okuekun/Zarunmi) at our APC ward Congress to elect our delegates through the consensus arrangement earlier agreed to by all.
Over the period of this exercise, I have learnt the importance of respect for history and culture as it serves as a guiding principle towards enabling us reach a consensus and ensuring that all political views and opinions are taken into consideration.
Serving as a major stakeholder in my ward is not a responsibility I take for granted. I am representing not just myself but also my family, the youth constituency, my party and most especially my Governor, His Excellency Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq.
In my pursuit of knowledge in politics and governance, I always aim to identify learning experiences from whichever situation I find myself. The lesson I have learnt from this experience is to endeavour to be a voice of reason and unity in all political deliberations.
I have learnt the importance of listening to all parties with differing views and be mature in the art of disagreeing in order to make an informed decision and bring everyone on board.
I thank his Excellency Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq for giving me the opportunity to serve the people of Kwara.
It is a great honour and I look forward to doing more towards supporting his great vision for a greater Kwara.
I pray for all my brothers and sisters in their various wards across the state and I wish them peace and journey mercies.
May Allah give us the patience and wisdom required to represent the people of Kwara to the best of our abilities.
